Healthcare spending and life expectancy

There is a correlation between healthcare expenditure and life expectancy, this could indicate some sort of relationship (the higher the spending, the more people live), however it is possible that as people live longer lives, spending increases.

Mediterranean and Asian countries, seem to be able to have higher life expectancy with lower expenditure (compared to high income countries). This could be down to dietary and cultural factors. United States have the highest expenditure and a relatively modest life expectancy.
